Matthew P. Anstey, Oct 2006
it travels from right to left
this diagonal feeling of mine
it sort of meanders from top to bottom
gnawing my heart as it goes
it travels from start to end
this diagonal feeling of mine
but travels is not the right word
nor is feeling ... throbbing
yearning raging knife-wound
might be better
but these are measly words
for a diagonal feeling, a
crossing emotion, a
heart-roping feeling
it travels from left to right
this diagonal feeling of mine
see here – it’s someone’s
footprint under my ribs
it’s a compressed feeling
squashed and crumpled and indented
a lave flow searing my heart, weary
beyond words from grief’s
heavy tread
it travels from right to left
this diagonal feeling of mine
